Portfolio Preparation for University and the Workplace

What you will learn

Orthographic and freehand drawing skills; visual awareness and 3D thinking; understand and apply the creative design process; digital design apps such as Photoshop and Vectorworks; design history and design theory; the impact of form, structure, light and colour on our perceptions of space; 3D materials, technologies and processes; design and drawings for construction details; materials and finishes for design; professional industry skills; planning, organising and presenting a portfolio.

This course will be taught to a standard equivalent to a Level 4 qualification in Interior Design and Architecture. A laptop or tablet computer with Adobe Photoshop Elements and Vectorworks will be required for this course to achieve a professional portfolio. Full instructions on how to download this software will be provided.

Where this course leads

This course will enable you to work on a range of ‘live ‘residential and commercial projects. Organise your work in an exciting and compelling way, ready to show to university admissions tutors, potential employers, and future clients for those seeking careers in entrepreneurship.

Who should attend

This course is aimed at any learner taking active steps to apply for a university place or preparing for employment. It will also benefit those learners who want or need basic portfolio skills to present to existing and future clients. Also suited for career-changers, and anyone with a passion for improving their design skills.

The tutor

This course has been devised and taught by an architect and educator with more than 20 years’ experience of teaching in further and higher education. She has worked extensively in the interior design industry, designing and styling for some of the world’s leading educational institutions and hotel chains. As an educator she has an unenviable record of preparing Level 3 and Level 4 students for entry to the UK’s top universities.
